Blogging is incredibly intimidating for someone that has no experience or training. WhileRaisingArrows.com is actually my third attempt and the first successful blog that actually got up off the ground and more than a handful of posts. Then you throw in a quick google search to figure it out. “Blogging for Beginners” and “How to start a blog.” Read a whole bunch of different training and seeing all the “we will build it for you” offers from Web Designers.
How the heck do you get started? Buy a URL? Now what? Which themes? How do you change the colors? All the fun and funky apps that are like a foreign language? What about that “SEO” stuff?
You know what? It is just too much information. Better just give up, right?
Wrong.
However, you wouldn’t buy a car without first knowing how to drive. That is a great way to find yourself off the edge of a cliff and if you just pay someone to build a website and not teach you what to do with it, you are basically doing the same thing. Don’t flush your hard earned money down the drain.
Why should you start a blog?
Blogging gives you credibility. It makes your voice louder and can give you perceived authority on your topic. It is one of the best ways to get your name out there and share news and information. You can express yourself and improve your writing skills all while potentially making some good money!
If you own your own business, work in direct sales or just have a lot to say, a blog is a great next step! Seriously, if you want to be seen as an authority in your topic of choice: go for it!
Types of Blog
There are so many types of blogs that you can create. Which one do you want to choose?
- Personal – Similar to a diary, it follows a narrative
- Niche – Focuses on a specific topic like fashion, food, crafting or birth (hello!)
- Business – Grows your emails list to help boost your business and could include a shop
- Affiliate blog – Reviews products then provides an affiliate link where small commissions are earned
Where do I Start?
This blog was created through a training program through SassySuite. They run an eight week training series that is perfect. Like I mentioned earlier, many blog builders will hand you the keys to a new pretty blog, but don’t teach you what to do next, how to promote your blog or how to use all the tools at your disposal.
You will build your own site hands-on with full support and step-by-step video guidance. After the eight week period is over, you still get to keep the online courses to reference if you need a refresher on how to specifically do something with your blog. By the end of the course, you will have your car and be ready to hit the road to success!
What comes with the course?
There are two different levels of investment: Standard and Premium. Both include a Facebook support group, weekly training calls, technical setup and 40 hours of training that covers all the things from website set up, how to brand yourself through graphics, SEP strategies, what to write, content strategies and more! I personally chose the premium group which adds on graphic design consultations, one on one consultations, a bonus course on how to use Pinterest (a bloggers best friend) and registration into another Pinterest boot amp group! I highly recommend the Premium package if you are 100% serious about starting off on a firm foundation.

Personally, I use SassyDirect for my direct sales business and this blog is for all my posts about pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood.
